Amazon HQ2 to be split evenly between two cities

Amazon in 'advanced talks' to build new HQ near DC Philadelphia Lingers On Amazon’s List Of Cities For Second Headquarters
Jean Garcia | 05 November, 2018, 23:50

Citing an anonymous source familiar with Amazon's plans, the highly-sought-after second headquarters will go to two cities in order to recruit enough tech talent, according the report. Amazon has not made a final decision on which two cities would be chosen, the report said.

An afternoon recap of the day's most important business news, delivered weekdays.

In January, Chicago made the list of 20 finalists from across the nation for the online retailer's "HQ2", a new campus equivalent to its original Seattle headquarters where the company says it expects "to invest over $5 billion in construction and grow this second headquarters to include as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs". However, talks have cooled in recent months, and the company's search team did not re-visit Boston this fall, as they reportedly have several other cities on the shortlist.

The Washington metropolitan area was long considered a top contender for Amazon's second headquarters.

'That’s a super tight schedule': Bears' Week 11 game vs
The Steelers have one other game that could still be flexed out of its current time slot - at Oakland Dec. 9. The Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints game has been moved from noon CST on FOX to 3:25 p.m. on FOX.

Amazon has not confirmed either report.

Mike Grella, Amazon's director of Economic Development Public Policy tweeted Saturday that leaks pointing toward Crystal City as the HQ2 selection wasn't doing the city any favors. "And stop treating the (nondisclosure agreement) you signed like a used napkin". Pittsburgh officials have been extremely quiet about Amazon, discussions with the company and the company's visit to the city.

In brief comments to the Miami Herald Monday, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Amazon has continued to ask for information related to Miami's HQ2 bid, the details of which remain exempt from Florida's Sunshine laws. Both the city and county plan to appeal that decision.
