This comes after the popular preacher told multitudes at his Waterfalls church on Sunday that he had found a cure for HIV/Aids and cancer but said patients will not be required to stop taking their anti-retroviral drugs.

Prophet Magaya of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries said last weekend that a herb known as "aguma" had the potency to render the HIV virus impotent.

Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa said Magaya had used his church's Yadah TV and the website of Aretha Medical to advertise his purported HIV cure called "Aguma".

The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) yesterday threatened to slap the PHD founder with a lawsuit within seven days because his HIV/Aids treatment claim is risky and leaves patients prone to infection.

"We write to seek an urgent retraction of your claim to cure HIV and Aids". Having carried the research from outside the country, I went on to announce the results unprocedurally. "For me to come and apologise, it is a sign of regret that I rushed the announcement", Magaya said. "When I approached the government, their response made me feel that they were ready to support us".

Magaya, who was released on $300 bail by magistrate Elisha Singano, was charged under Section 40 (1) also read with Section 40 (2a) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act Chapter 15:03 for "distributing or in any other manner whatsoever bringing to the notice of the public or causing or permitting to be published or distributed or to be brought to the notice of the public any false or misleading advertisement of a medicine".

The government is now on an ambitious $103 million, five-year HIV-testing strategy - to raise the number of people who know their status, as the country bids to build on the progress which has been made in the last seven years, which saw new HIV infections falling by 50 percent.

However, local health authorities and world bodies, including the World Health Organisation, dismissed his claim.

"The ministry strongly urges all clients on treatment for HIV and Aids to continue on their prescribed medication". Zimbabwe has an HIV prevalence rate of 13,7 percent according to 2016 national estimates. "Health experts say there is no cure yet", he said.
