A runaway train took off without its driver then rattled over 57 miles at speeds of over 62 miles per hour before being deliberately derailed, Australia's Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said Monday.

Australian mining company BHP has deliberately derailed a runaway train after it carried 268 wagons for 92km across the Pilbara outback.

A BHP spokeswoman told the West Australian newspaper no one was injured. BHP said that the train began to move unmanned at 4.40am and was stopped about 50 minutes later, implying it had travelled at more than 100km/h with...

The resource giant has suspended all train operations in the Pilbara region while an investigation is underway.
