The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says the latest Ontario operations targeted for job actions are in Toronto's east end, as well as London, Barrie, Brantford, Fort Erie, Guelph, Simcoe, St. Catharines, and Welland.

Just after midnight on Monday morning, local workers formed a picket line in front of the distribution centre on Woodlawn Road with signs in hand, demanding improvements to working conditions.

He said CUPW is ratcheting up its walkouts to add pressure on Canada Post in negotiations centering around health and safety concerns, staffing, wages and workloads.

Walkouts mean mail and parcels will not be picked up or delivered in the areas that strike action is taking place. Around 170 federal employees are affected in these communities.

"Some letter carriers are working more than 10 hours a day depending on the route and mail volume", he said.

The crown corporation said its operations have been shut down in more than 90 communities across Canada since the strike was started, causing backlogs and delays in the system.
