Hubble Has Found a Friendly Face Out There in The Universe

What Caused This Smiley In Space? NASA Explains Hubble Telescope spots smiling face staring back at it in search for newborn stars - World News

In some cases, gravitational lensing causes some lights from distant celestial sources to look like a ring or a bubble in space.

The Hubble telescope was launched on April 24, 1990, via the space shuttle Discovery from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.

Here, nestled among a sea of galaxies, is a clear and unmistakable smiley face - two bright blobs suspended above a streak of light.

Hubble has the pointing accuracy of.007 arc seconds, which is like being able to shine a laser beam focused on Franklin D. Roosevelt's head on a dime roughly 200 miles away.

The Hubble Telescope has stared into the abyss, and the abyss has stared back in the form of a smiling face in space found during a search for new galaxies and stars. But many galaxies in the line of sight also appear distorted.

By analysing the luminosity, size and formation rate of young stars in images like these, researchers at NASA hope to better understand how stars are formed in the cold and dusty corners of the Universe.

When stars are born, they emerge from giant clouds of gas, called stellar nurseries.

'WFC3 is able to view distant galaxies at an unprecedented resolution - high enough to locate and study regions of star formation within them, ' NASA said.

NASA's Hubble telescope has just resumed scientific observations after a three-week shutdown. The orbiting observatory was forced to suspend its operation due to a gyroscope failure. It's important to study stellar formation within different galaxies to gain a richer context, which is why Hubble had its gaze fixed on a galaxy cluster.

Earlier, scientists have uncovered the mystery of black holes in the Universe.
