Major Brexit donor Arron Banks: UK may have been better to Remain

Banks Fishing As Investigation Launches In UK Arron Banks would now vote to Remain because of Government's 'disgraceful' handling of Brexit

The multi-millionaire, co-founder of Leave.EU, is under investigation by the National Crime Agency amid concerns that money he provided may have come originally from "impermissible sources".

"The money came from Rock Services which was a United Kingdom limited company, it was generated out of insurance business written in the United Kingdom".

The Commission says it has "reasonable grounds" to suspect Banks of a number of potential criminal offences, including, along with other associated people "concealing the true details of these transactions" and not being the "true source" of the donations.

The Electoral Commission said it suspected Banks had tried to "knowingly conceal" the origin of the money, and that the money was provided through a company based in the Isle of Man.

When pressed on the source of the funding, Banks told the BBC that the cash in question was generated by Rock Services, a UK-listed company, that created the funds through insurance business in the UK.

Funding provided in late 2015 and early 2016 was diverted to two main groups Leave.EU and Better for the Country Limited [BFTC].

"It is a discrepancy because what he told us was that Rock Services really just provides services to other companies that he owns - provides cash, makes payments". "I am a United Kingdom taxpayer and I have never received any foreign donations", he said on Thursday.

"It's a group of vicious MPs who have grouped together with the Guardian and the FT".

Banks also stated he was confident the NCA would clear him and his campaign, branding the Electoral Commission a "shambles" and dismissing the whole exercise an attempt by the Remain campaign to "tarnish" the Leave campaign and derail Brexit.

"Mr Banks and another senior campaign figure, Liz Bilney, were referred to the agency by the Electoral Commission".

Collins rejected suggestions that the UK's departure from the European Union should be put on hold while the investigation into Banks and Leave.EU was carried out.

A millionaire credited with bankrolling Brexit said he would now vote for the United Kingdom to remain in the European Union because of the "disgraceful behaviour of the Government".

Mr Banks was asked by Andrew Marr why he wrote to Mr Collins' constituents calling him a "snake in the grass".

"Channel 4 are a propaganda channel", Mr Banks responded.

On Tuesday, the Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, will announce the outcome of an inquiry into claims Eldon shared customer data obtained for insurance purposes with Leave.EU, potentially breaking data protection laws.
