After the decision, the actress told reporters outside that she was happy the case has a "definitive end".

The High Court in Canberra rejected the 38-year-old's application to appeal after she was ordered to pay back the Australian publishing company nearly 90 per cent of her $4.7 million payout. 'I'm so proud of myself for seeing it through.

The actress had sued Woman's Day magazine a year ago over a series of articles in 2015 that she said had painted her as someone who'd lied about her real name, age and childhood in order to make it in Hollywood.

Ms Wilson, along with her lawyers, Matthew Collins QC and fellow barrister Renee Enbom, appeared before the High Court in Canberra on Friday in a bid to keep her payout.

The Supreme Court of Victoria state awarded her an Australian-record payout of $3.4 million ($4.7 million AUD) after a jury concluded she'd missed out on film roles because of the articles.

On Friday, Bauer Media said it was "pleased that the High Court has chosen to bring an end to this matter".

Despite Justice John Dixon awarding the Los Angeles-based star a record-breaking Australian damages payout, Bauer successfully appealed the dollar figure.

Those who have been lucky enough to bring his characters to life on the big screen share the same respect and admiration. And that's the reason I care so much about the fans. "I can not tell you how much I love my fans", responded Lee.

Wilson was originally awarded $4.5m last September, but the case turned against the actress in June 2018 when the court slashed the damages awarded to $600,000 after the Court of Appeal found they had been wrongly awarded.

After a brief adjournment, the High Court chose to refuse the special leave application, with costs.

However, a court reduced the sum on appeal.

"To me it was never about the money".

Bauer Media chief executive Paul Dykzeul welcomed the decision, saying: "Our audience trust our content and our writers and they love our iconic brands like Woman's Day and Australian Women's Weekly".

'I have moved on, personally and professionally, and it's great now that it has all come to a definite end, ' she said.
