"These three strains belong to a single species of bacteria called Enterobacter bugandensis, which was found to have caused disease in newborns and immunocompromised patients who were taken to three different hospitals (in East Africa, Washington state and Colorado)", - said the employee of NASA, kasthuri Venkateswaran.

Arguably one of the greatest scientific collaborations in the history of mankind - and certainly the most expensive - the International Space Station (ISS) has been orbiting the Earth for 20 years, bringing science and amazement to Earthbound scientists, researchers and space enthusiasts.

Microbiologists from the jet propulsion Laboratory, NASA regularly conducted studies of samples of microbes collected on the space station to figure out, does the space environment on their population in any way and do they create a health hazard to astronauts and equipment.

The Jazz quickly pulled away again before the end of the quarter to keep the Kings at a comfortable distance. Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 20 points and Marvin Bagley III added 18 off the bench to lead Sacramento.

To get a better understanding of the bacteria, the researchers compared the five strains found in the ISS to all publicly available genomes of Enterobacter on Earth. As the Astronauts are in the Space vacuum outside the environment of the earth, their immune system is prone to virus and bacterial attacks, leaving them vulnerable to this Enterobacter. A study published in the journal BMC Microbiology. We revealed that genomes of the five ISS Enterobacter strains were genetically most similar to three strains newly found on Earth.

Even though the NASA is anxious about this EnteroBacter, the scientists are relaxed about this matter.

Microgravity is known to increase a bacterium's tendency to acquire foreign genetic material and to become resistant to metals and antibiotics, factors which could predispose the ISS E. bugadensis strains toward increased virulence in the future. According to a computer simulation, there is a probability of 79% that they will pose a threat to humans and will cause disease.
