A search and rescue operation is under way in Japan after an incident involving two US Marine Corps aircraft.

A US official told Fox News that seven Marines were on board the two aircraft.

World in 'deep trouble' over climate change, United Nations warns
The United States is the only country, not part of the accord after President Donald Trump chose to walk away from it. In July, Greece declared a state of emergency as massive fires wiped out entire towns.

The aircraft involved had launched from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and were conducting regularly scheduled training. Very few details have been made public in the initial Corps news release. It was not clear how many people were aboard either of the aircraft.

The Marines said in a statement that Japanese search and rescue aircraft responded and were aiding in the rescue effort.

Early reports that surfaced on Twitter report that an F/A-18 (unspecified variant) and a C-130 crashed into the sea with a total of seven crewmembers on board. Check back for updates.

An FA-18, like the one shown here in Australia, was identified as one of the planes that was involved in a mishap off the coast of Japan on Wednesday.
