An Angus Council spokesman said: "Parking meters affected by the O2 network's outage yesterday are now being uncovered at off-street vehicle parks in Angus, now the network has been restored".

A staggering 32 million United Kingdom residents were directly affected as a result of the interruption, either through O2 or third-party providers that piggyback the same network - such as Tesco and Sky.

"Our technical teams will continue to monitor service performance closely and we're starting the full review to understand what happened", it said.

Yesterday, 02 boss, Mark Evans, issued an apology on behalf of the company.

The day-long O2 outage impacted all of the operator's 25 million customers, as well as an additional seven million customers using Sky Mobile, Tesco Mobile and giffgaff, all of which use the same mobile infrastructure.

The technical fault meant customers were unable to use their mobile data to access the internet and other services on O2's network on Thursday.

The Japanese company, which plans to list its domestic unit in a $21 billion IPO later this month, said the problem was resolved after four and a half hours by reverting to an older version of Ericsson's software.

Diane Rwigara: Rwanda government critic acquitted
But it added: "We condemn all attempts by external actors to inappropriately influence judicial processes in Rwanda". Activists Diane Rwigara and her mother Adeline have been acquitted of all charges brought against them.

O2's data network went down at around 4:45am yesterday morning, with the immediate and downstream outage affecting around 32 million people (so describing them as "a limited number of customers" seems a little off, Ericsson).

An O2 statement read: "We can now report that our 4G network has been restored".

"The bigger issue here is that mobile carriers all over the world, including in Great Britain and in Japan, are all running some of the software in question, with control over the maintenance of this proprietary software completely in the hands of a single vendor, in this case, Ericsson".

She added: "Ericsson sincerely apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused". "We fully appreciate it's been a poor experience and we are really sorry", said Mark Evans, CEO, Telefonica (O2) United Kingdom, during the incident.

"We work hard to ensure that our customers can limit the impact and restore their services as soon as possible".

Marielle Lindgren, chief executive of Ericsson UK and Ireland, said: "The faulty software that has caused these issues is being decommissioned".
