Forecasters have warned that temperatures will plunge toward the end of January, despite above-average figures over the last few days.

"This cold air will start to move across the country on Wednesday covering Scotland and northern England in the morning before continuing its journey southeastwards".

Met forecaster Marco Petagna said: 'On Wednesday we'll see temperatures in rural areas [in the North East] dipping well below freezing.

Once again, Nolan forecasts, we can expect a lot of cold air coming westwards from Siberia and sweeping across Ireland.

Will late January bring another "Beast from the East" to Tayside and Fife?

Temperatures are predicted to plummet as low as -17C, according to The Weather Company.

Snow could arrive in Northern Ireland as soon as this weekend.

.

Brutain could be gearing toward a cold snap at the end of January although a blanket of snow cannot be promised.

"The week beginning Monday, January 21, there is a stronger signal of it getting colder, that would increase the risk of snow across the United Kingdom".

China's exports shrink most in two years, raising risks for global economy
He added that cooperation with Belt and Road countries " has become new driving force of China's foreign trade development ". The bigger trade gap may add pressure on the Trump administration to raise the tariffs on China further.

"I think it is reasonable in that on Friday night there will be some snow in Scotland but we don't know how much of it will settle", Mr Bowles added.

"Some drier, brighter spells are likely, perhaps with snow showers, during such spells, frost could become widespread and severe".

A blast of Arctic air will bring an end to what has been a mild January for most of the United Kingdom towards the end of the week.

She said: "During the day on Wednesday we could see temperatures of 10C (50F) or 11C (51.8F), however by Thursday we are looking at maximums in single figures".

The weather forecast throughout Kent remains cloudy throughout the week with highs of 9C.

This would bring an enhanced risk of snow and widespread frost nearly anywhere across the United Kingdom, but particularly across northern parts.

A sudden stratospheric warming has happened.

Campaigners have reiterated calls for elderly and vulnerable people to take extra care during cold weather.

SSW is more often than not followed by a cold spell and is what caused extreme weather during the Beast from the East from late February into early March 2018.
