UPS says police responding to shooter at New Jersey facility

An armed gunman is reported to have taken his girlfriend and another man hostage at a UPS processing facility in New Jersey.

Authorities responded to a report of an active shooter at the UPS facility in Logan Township around 8:30 a.m.as the SWAT team was activated to head to the warehouse on the 200 block of Birch Creek Road.

Logan Township police said there was an "active shooter situation going on", but provided no further information on a suspect or any possible injuries.

A spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office told NJ.com "the situation is contained".

Television images show police cars surrounding the loading dock area of the building in Logan Township, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Philadelphia. "Per Logan Police Department directive, Logan Townships Schools are in a modified lockdown", read a banner on the district's website.

"We have an active incident in place", chief of staff Tom Gilbert said, adding that law enforcement is in a "fact-gathering" mode.
