Hillary Clinton's daughter accused of stoking Islamophobia at Christchurch shooting vigil

Steven Clarke | 17 March, 2019, 11:39

New York University students can be seen on a video confronting Chelsea Clinton at a vigil Friday night for the victims of the New Zealand mosque attacks, blaming her rhetoric for the attacks. "I want you to know that and I want you to feel that deep inside".

The caption and comments were an apparent reference to Ms Clinton's condemnation of Democratic congresswoman Ilham Omar, who was widely criticised last month for using "anti-Semitic tropes".

"I$3 was on the verge of tears all day today and actually cried on my into and during prayer but the charade of a vigil where more non-[M] uslims than [M] uslims spoke and [C] helsea [C] linton was invited made me so viscerally angry and [I] will not apologize for that", she said. "I believe we have to show solidarity with each other", Clinton told the students.

One user tweeted: 'This is absolute horses**t. chelsea clinton calling out ilhan omar's anti semitism isn't islamophobia and blaming her for christchurch is uncalled for. i am muslim and i thought omar crossed the line into anti semitism'. "Anyone who doesn't understand that is part of the problem", he tweeted.

The Spanish giants face Celta Vigo on Saturday and the Real Madrid boss has sparked a discussion over his starting XI. The 1998 World Cup victor inherits a far different dressing room from the when he left in more ways than one.

In a video posted to social media, the students claimed that Ms Clinton "stoked" the hatred that fuelled the attack.

"What does "I'm sorry you feel that way" mean?" asked a male student nearby, seemingly frustrated.

Clinton - clearly taken aback - tried to respond, saying "I'm so sorry you feel that way".

Other Republicans used the confrontation to compare it to how US President Donald Trump's rhetoric has been blamed for stoking violence and allowing a rise to white supremacism. "Agreed. It should go without saying but neither myself, @ChelseaClinton or Spyro the Dragon had anything to do with the tragedy in New Zealand". "Please stop the nonsense". Tweets poured in from figures like Donald Trump Jr. and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, to name a few. "Period", Huckabee said, mentioning the 2017 congressional baseball shooting suspect who was a Sanders supporter.
