Tata Motors' wholly owned subsidiary - Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has started a voluntary recall of around 44,000 cars in the United Kingdom over higher than certified levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

In a statement, JLR said: 'Affected vehicles are being rectified to ensure the correct Carbon dioxide performance is dependably achieved.

Affected models are those with either a 2.0-litre diesel or 2.0-litre petrol engine. This is believed to involve a software update in most cases although some could require physical changes, including new tyres on the Evoque.

"Affected vehicles will be repaired free of charge and every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience to the customer during the short time required for the work to be carried out".

Quite a few models are affected, including the Jaguar XE, XF, E-Pace, F-Pace, along with the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar and Range Rover Sport.

Several Members of Parliament in Norway are also alarmed and strongly oppose her imprisonment and especially any lashes. Though she denied the charges, she was imprisoned for 11 years and was barred from practising law for 20 years.

Britain's biggest carmaker, owned by India's Tata Motors, will have to carry out free repairs on the models after the Vehicle Certification Agency found 10 models for the Land Rover and Jaguar brands were emitting higher greenhouse gases than had been certified earlier. The findings were then reported by JLR to the country's Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Speaking with Automotive News Europe, Greg Archer, UK director for the European environmental pressure group, said: "JLR has clearly been minimizing the declared Carbon dioxide and under estimating emissions".

The recall notice comes during an increasingly hard time for the auto maker.

In January the firm confirmed it is cutting 4,500 jobs, with the substantial majority coming from its 40,000 strong United Kingdom workforce.

Meanwhile, JLR's retail sales in February 2019 fell 4.1 percent to 38,288 vehicles YoY, dented by weak customer demand in China.
