McGregor (21-4 MMA, 9-2 UFC) faced up to 20 years in prison on the initial charges.

Miami prosecutors have dropped charges against UFC superstar Conor McGregor stemming from an incident in which the Irishman allegedly smashed a fan's cellphone outside a Miami Beach nightclub on March 11.

McGregor had originally been charged with robbery by sudden snatching and criminal mischief.

According to the Miami Herald, the victim stopped cooperating with police and "recanted his story".

Court documents say the prosecutor made several attempts to contact British complainant Ahmed Abdirzak "without much luck".

True fans will recall that this legendary swordsman had to relearn the art of combat after his right hand was chopped off in Season 3.

According to TMZ Sports, Abdirzak is no longer in the United States and is refusing to come back so that he can help convict McGregor.

The memorandum continues: "Mr Abdirzak has had some time to reflect on his encounter with Mr McGregor. he no longer believes Mr McGregor sought to injure or damage him or his property or permanently or temporarily deprive him of his property".

A civil lawsuit filed against McGregor alleged he snatched the phone of a fan who took pictures of him. As a result, they've decided he is not credible, and dropped the lingering charges against McGregor.

McGregor did not appear in court for Monday's brief hearing.

Assistant State Attorney Khalil Madani issued a statement claiming that there were issues with the defendant's credibility, amongst other things. McGregor was initially released on $12,500 bond and is scheduled to return to court for an arraignment on April 10. He was planning a comeback, but then retired the same day The New York Times reported he was under investigation in Ireland on allegations of sexual assault.
