"I would say, for my generation, specifically, social media has really been bad", said Gomez, who is in Cannes to promote director Jim Jarmusch's The Dead Don't Die.

"I understand that it's awesome to use your platform but it does scare me when you see how exposed these young girls and young boys are", she said. "It's selfish - I don't wanna say selfish because it feels rude - but it's risky for sure".

"It just scares me, that's all", Gomez said.

Speaking at a press conference to promote her new film, the Jim Jarmusch directed The Dead Don't Die at the Cannes Film Festival, 26-year-old Gomez responded to a question from a journalist about "the most pressing issue facing our planet" by saying: "I would say for my generation specifically. social media has really been awful".

The Cannes 2019 started with the screening of Jim Jarmusch's zombie comedy The Dead Don't Die. Gomez, who has more than 150 million Instagram followers, has also posted less on social media than many other celebs amid her struggles.

"I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn't want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn't want to care about", she added.

"I also don't do a lot of pointless pictures". For me, I like to be intentional with it. "I see these young girls, I'll meet them in meet-and-greets or something, and they're just devastated dealing with bullying and not being able to have their own voice". And, yes, that can't help but involve the influence of social media. Speaking with Heben Nigatu on an episode of Coach's podcast, "Dream It Real", she said: "It is not that healthy to be on [social media] all the time. I don't think people are getting the right information sometimes".

Gomez occasionally takes social media "breaks". According to Murray, he told Vanity Fair, "I don't remember what I said", adding, "I was trying to keep her at ease. And I hate to say that, I don't mean to be rude, but it's very unrealistic in a lot of ways". Of course, a luxe locale calls for a luxe wardrobe, and each year, the stars bring it with the most over-the-top gowns and jewels. She responded by posting about body-positivity.
