(Washington Examiner) President Trump on Wednesday pardoned Lord Conrad Black, a larger-than-life Canadian-born British former newspaper magnate.

Black, who has British citizenship and was made a British peer by the Queen in 2001, was convicted of both fraud and obstruction of justice in Chicago in 2007. He was released in 2012 following a successful appeal against two of three fraud convictions, reducing his sentence, and deported from the U.S. He now lives in Canada.

However, the pressure from shareholders would ultimately lead to a probe by an internal committee of directors, followed by investigations of Black's businesses by the U.S. Securities Commission and the Department of Justice, which culminated in criminal charges of fraud and obstruction of justice against him. He was also required to pay a fine of $125,000, as well as paying the SEC $4.1 million.

Trump also pardoned Patrick Nolan, a former Republican leader of the California State Assembly.

"The Supreme Court of the United States, however, largely disagreed and overturned nearly all charges in his case", the White House said in a statement announcing the pardon.

Lord Black, born in Montreal, Canada, was the former head of Hollinger International, which once owned the Daily Telegraph, Chicago Sun-Times, Jerusalem Post and hundreds of community papers in the USA and Canada.

"'Two seconds later probably the best-known voice in the world said 'Is that the great Lord Black?' I said 'Mr".

In the wake of Democrats' push for abortion-til-birth legislation, the nation has been hit with a pro-life counter. Elizabeth Warren , another 2020 candidate, similarly suggested that eliminating abortion will prove deadly.

Shortly after the pardon was announced, Canada's National Post published an article from Black in which he continued to take issue with his conviction and said he was "at last, officially not guilty even in the conviction-mad United States". But it was Trump on the line, apparently telling Black that the full pardon would "expunge the bad wrap" he got.

"In light of these facts, Mr".

"You are correct that no pardon has been applied for, and I have no comment on the subject", Black told a Canadian news outlet.

Mr Black, who has called Mr Trump a friend, published a book past year praising him, titled "Donald J Trump: A President Like No Other". "Black is entirely deserving of this Grant of Executive Clemency", the statement read.

In addition to his book, Black frequently writes columns praising Trump and considers the president a friend.

Earlier this month, Trump pardoned Michael Behenna, a former soldier who had been sentenced to 25 years in prison for unpremeditated murder in a combat zone by a military court.

"I suggested that he knew "better than anyone" the antics of some US prosecutors".
