Jose Simms is wanted in Torrington for seven failures to appear in court.

A CT police department has reached a deal with a fugitive that would have him surrender if enough people respond to a wanted poster on social media, an agreement that at least one expert calls unethical.

Torrington Police, in CT, posted the details of the odd deal on Tuesday, explaining that an officer got in contact with the suspect over Facebook.

After police posted mugshots of other wanted suspects on their Facebook page, Simms messaged them, offering to turn himself in for likes.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the police department's Facebook post had received more than 6,300 "likes".

"It will be hard but is doable", the police official wrote as he pleaded for Facebook users to "please "like" this post".

Bottas, filling in for the Brit at the news conference, said: "Really shocking news to start the week". "He meant a lot to me, and to every team member".

The post, which also featured an unrelated wanted poster of 36-year-old suspect Kristopher Waananen, continued: "Then again, if you know where either of these guys are, you could always let us know that too, it'd save everyone from the suspense of the 15K...."

Peters said Simms has been wanted since March 1; his outstanding warrants mostly involve domestic-type incidents, including "violation of a protective order from a family violence incident", in a case in which polide say he "placed a child at risk or a child was injured".

"Looking over your shoulder every five seconds can cause a lot of stress", he wrote.

Simms said he was prepared to live up to his end of the agreement, insisting he is a "man of my word".

The post will be updated if or when Simms turns up or is found. As of now he has not.

Authorities in CT are asking for the public's help in capturing a suspect who teased police officers online with an unusual deal to turn himself in. It's all appreciated. -Lt.
