Flight AC33 was about two hours past Hawaii over the Pacific Ocean early Thursday morning when "unforecasted and sudden turbulence" triggered a turnaround and caused "minor injuries" for about 35 travellers, the airline said in an email.

The number of passengers on the plane totalled 269.

The carrier's initial reports were of 25 people with minor injuries. The aircraft was forced to turn around, before requesting an emergency landing in Honolulu. The plane was diverted to Honolulu and landed at 12:45 pm EST.

Luke Wheeldon told the Honolulu news station KTIV about half the passengers had not been wearing seatbelts.

Lemina admits desire to leave Southampton amid Manchester United rumours
The 25-year-old has made a decision to leave Southampton, though, and gave a full rundown of his situation to France Football . But it is true that I do not rule out the possibility of seeing something else.

"There was no warning and then half of them, their head hit the roof all at once", he said. "And I went, 'Oh, this is a bad day'".

Passengers told news reporters the turbulence tossed people into the air, some hitting the ceiling. Several people were injured.

Gregor says crew members asked for medical personnel to meet the plane at the gate.

Air Canada is now making arrangements for the passengers, including hotel accommodations and meals in Honolulu, as well as options to resume the flight to Sydney.

The plane, a Boeing 777-200, has reportedly had around 270 passengers and 15 crew members on board.
