Running back Melvin Gordon #28 of the Los Angeles Chargers makes a 34 yard run in the second quarter against the Oakland Raiders at StubHub Center on October 7, 2018 in Carson, California.

It appears Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has become disgruntled with his current contract.

National Football League insider Adam Schefter is reporting that Gordon, 26, has issued a strong demand to the Chargers: Give me a new contract or I'll hold out of training camp and potentially demand a trade.

Gordon is due to make $5.605 million this year. Trading star players is hardly unprecedented, but trading a running back of Gordon's caliber in his prime would be.

But with training camp just weeks away, the Chargers running back has informed the team that unless he gets a new deal he won't report and will demand to be traded, his agent Fletcher Smith told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Water and gas service have been restored at the base, but engineers are ensuring buildings are safe to enter. Experts said the recent quakes did not happen along the San Andreas Fault and are unlikely to affect it.

After not scoring a touchdown as a rookie in 14 games, Gordon has 28 rushing touchdowns and 10 receiving touchdowns over the past three seasons.

This is likely a small ripple in the AFC West pond given that the Chargers would be foolish to let Gordon walk.

The 26-year-old has 38 touchdowns over the past three seasons.

That said, it's hard to ignore the price (pun intended) of paying a running back. Gordon will hold out of training camp and demand a trade if a contract extension is not completed.

Gordon's new contract could be similar to the deals Todd Gurley and Le'Veon Bell signed over the past year.
