Social media giant Twitter suffered an hour-long worldwide outage this morning, with users unable to access the platform on both the website and mobile.

The online news and social networking site Twitter is down right now after suffering a massive outage.

Update 3:33pm ET:Twitter's status site now shows that an "active incident" is causing a service disruption on the main site.

Outage tracking website Downdetector.com earlier showed that there were almost 70,000 people across the globe reporting issues with Twitter.

Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will face off at the Wimbledon Championships after 11 years. Federer beat Nadal in the Grand Slam tournament's previous two finals.

Twitter also says that most of their APIs will be affected starting July 15, after "all connections to the Twitter API (and all other Twitter domains) will require TLS 1.2". Some users in various parts of the U.S. were still experiencing outages as of 5.12pm ET, according to the website.

Twitter blamed the outage on an "internal configuration change".

The social networking site posted a message on its status page that read, "We are now investigating issues people are having accessing Twitter. Thanks for noticing-we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon". However, some users can still tweet which indicates that the outage is not worldwide. "Sorry! Grateful for our operations and engineering teams for getting us flying again", Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey wrote.

Twitter is now aware of the "service disruption" problem and is trying to fix it.
