The Tuesday night drive home couldn't have been sweeter for drivers headed home on I-285.

One driver told WSB Radio: 'I saw a bunch of paper floating around in the road and everybody pulling over on the shoulder, and as I got closer I noticed it was all just cash'.

About 8 p.m., police responded to 911 calls that more than 15 vehicles had stopped on the busy interstate to pick up money that had fallen off an armored vehicle.

Cash litters Interstate 285 outside Atlanta after an armored truck's side door unexpectedly opened.

"I'm trying to find what they didn't find, trying to find some money", said Watts.

Local police say officers and the armoured truck crew gathered a few hundred dollars that was still there when officers arrived, but plenty was taken.

Acosta Resigns in Wake of Epstein Plea Deal Scandal
The president said that Acosta's deputy, Patrick Pizzella , will take the reins at the department's acting secretary. Announcing Acosta's resignation, he said: "Yes, I did have a falling out a long time ago".

"What we're asking the public to do is bring the money back, don't make us come looking for you, because if we do that, you probably will be charged", Dunwoody Sgt. Robert Parsons told the publication. "My instinct was to pull over and collect as much as I can", said Lewis. But police warn those who picked up the money could face charges if they don't return it.

As the Georgia story gained traction, Parsons said the department began to receive a new set of complaints: Dozens of drivers had taken to the interstate, scouring the area for spare dollars that hadn't yet been collected while "causing huge traffic jams on the perimeter".

Lewis told WXIA that while he thought about what the money could do for his family, he ultimately made a decision to return it because it wasn't worth the legal trouble.

"That leaves a lot left out there", Parsons said. "While we certainly understand the temptation, it's still theft and the money should be returned", says the post.

Some people have actually returned their ill-gotten gains: But others apparently made a decision to scavenge the area for leftover loot on Wednesday. The police said that they had gotten reports of road blockages on Wednesday as people searched for cash.
