"The two persons, including Nasir Janjua and Mahar Jilani, have been meeting him since he was appointed Accountability Court-II Judge Islamabad and demanding him to give the decision in favour of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in HME and Flagship Investment references".

A senior Pakistani judge accused of convicting the jailed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a corruption case "under pressure" has been removed from his office, the country's law ministry said.

In a video released last week by Sharif's daughter Maryam, Justice Malik was purportedly seen confessing in a chat with a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader that he was under vast pressure from certain elements to convict the three-time premier in the graft case.

In the letter, judge Malik claimed he was offered Rs 500 million bribe by former premier Nawaz Sharif's son Hussain Nawaz along with his entire family settlement overseas if he resigned on the grounds that he could no longer deal with the guilt of convicting Nawaz without evidence.

The IHC has the administrative control of the accountability courts in Islamabad.

"Judge Arshad Malik was asked to stop working on the basis of the alleged video and the press release", Naseem told a news conference on Friday.

The Islamabad HC chose to remove the judge after he submitted an affidavit in court claiming he was offered bribes and threatened with dire consequences by PML-N representatives initially to force him into issuing verdicts in favour of Sharif in corruption references. The minister said the conviction of Sharif can only be overturned by a high court. "In the affidavit the judge has said that he issued the verdict without any pressure or intimidation", Nasim said. Opposition leader in the National Assembly and PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif also called for the immediate release of his elder brother.

Meanwhile, ousted premier Nawaz Sharif's son, Hussain Nawaz, has rejected judge Malik's claim, saying he did not bribe or threaten the judge. The Islamabad HC spokesperson said Malik's affidavit and letter have been made part of Sharif's acquittal plea.

Meanwhile, Maryam tweeted, "I request the top judiciary to revoke the judgment against Nawaz Sharif and set him free without any further delay".
