Social Media Clampdown May Loom Amid Rampant Bias

Social Media Summit Day: Donald Trump Slams Tech Companies, Mocks Elizabeth Warren’s Appearance, Calls Himself A Great Looking Stable Genius President Trump invites right-wing extremists to White House ‘social media summit’

As we previously reported, this unprecedented convention of social media influencers at the White House that took place yesterday was already causing controversy before it had even taken place.

Invitees said they had received little information about the event but in a statement to Reuters, the White House positioned it as follow-up to an online survey launched by the administration in May for people to report "suspected political bias" on social media.

Twitter and Facebook had no comment on the summit when contacted by FOX Business.

"A big subject today at the White House Social Media Summit will be the tremendous dishonesty, bias, discrimination and suppression practiced by certain companies", the president tweeted in a thread that quickly detoured into colorfully mocking the mainstream media and several Democrats running for their party's 2020 presidential nomination.

Mr Trump used the presentation to repeat accusations that Twitter was censoring him. Two of the people said Parler in particular isn't ready.

"I am not speaking for 'our side.' You could be some of the most liberal people in the world in this audience, and I don't care", Trump told the assembled guests in the East Room on Thursday.

Police launch probe into UK Ambassador's email leak
In furious verbal attacks on Darroch, Trump has described the ambassador as "wacky", "a very stupid guy" and a "pompous fool". Sir Kim's resignation prompted widespread support for him - as well as criticism of Tory leadership frontrunner Mr Johnson.

The event underscores the escalating tensions between social media companies and prominent conservatives as tech giants begin cracking down on hate speech, violence and other content that violates their rules. Despite his prevalent use of Twitter, Trump surmised he would have probably become president even without using it.

Donald Trump's frustration with social media companies including Twitter Inc. only goes so far: aides say he has no intention, at least right now, to stop tweeting.

Trump praised numerous participants and noticed the videos and images they created in support of the president.

Regardless of the rhetoric, the decisions of the sites to use their own judgment to suppress the free speech of some but not others justifies greater scrutiny as to whether they, like other broadcast mediums that are classified as public utilities, warrant more oversight of their own. Three tech officials said they had no knowledge of the meeting before Trump announced it.

Mr Trump, a frequent tweeter, lashed out in a Twitter post before the event on Thursday at some social media companies and traditional news firms, saying, "The Fake News is not as important, or as powerful, as Social Media" and criticising what he said was unfairness by some firms. However, a Twitter spokesperson told CNN they "couldn't know what we'd do in response to a hypothetical invite to a hypothetical meeting". But he and other Republicans have long claimed that online platforms employ tactics to silence their voices, allegations that major social media companies have denied.
