USA servicemember killed in Afghanistan

Pakistan joins US-led call for Afghan ceasefire, talks One American killed in Afghanistan, military says

It's unclear whether the death was related to a roadside bombing that the Taliban claimed Saturday, saying it had "blown apart" an armored US vehicle in an area of Wardak province along the Kandahar-Kabul Highway, about 50 miles south of the Afghan capital and some 25 miles west of a coalition base known as Camp Dahlke in Logar province.

The announcement was made in a statement by NATO's Operation Resolute Support, but offered no further details about how the service member was killed.

Mujahed said two USA service personnel were killed when Taliban militants attacked a tank in Sayed Abad district of central Wardak province, barely 40 miles south of the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Those issues include the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, a permanent cease-fire, a Taliban guarantee that Afghanistan will not be used as a base for attacks in other countries, and an inter-Afghan dialogue that leads to a political settlement.

Rahimi said there were totally three attackers.

After almost 18 years, it is America's longest war, in which over 2,400 American service members have died.

He said three attackers were killed by security forces and two others were arrested.

Separately, Afghanistan's Islamic State affiliate claimed Friday's suicide attack that killed 6 people.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, left, meets with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Afghan Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, and former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, right, at the Presidential Palace in Kabul, Afghanistan on June 25, 2019.

The two incidents on Saturday came less than a week after Taliban officials sat face-to-face with Afghan leaders as well as United States negotiators in Qatar in a bid to end the 18-year war in Afghanistan.

The U.S. war in Afghanistan is now in its 18th year.

The report also added that "This strains limited resources and heightens regional tensions".

Indian security agencies said the terrorist cadre's shift to across the Durand Line has been done to avoid black-listing of Pakistan by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in its Paris conference later this year.
