Shocking video from the scene of a fire in Philadelphia shows a man scaling down a building to escape the burned structure.

In a video captured by WPVI Action News' Chopper 6, the man can be seen climbing down the outside of the West Philly apartment building by using the balconies and railings on each story as hand and footholds. Firefighters flooded the third-floor trash chute and with an abundance of caution also flooded the trash chute on floor 15, WPVI reports.

First responders evacuated the rest of residents from the building which is part of the Philadephia Housing Authority development and houses both families and seniors. The blaze was placed under control at 10:56 p.m. In some cases, they made forced entry to the units.

Philadelphia firefighters responded Thursday night to a blaze at the Holden Tower that had sparked in the lower portion of the building's trash chute, a local ABC affiliate reported.

After the long trek down, the man casually jumped to safety and walked away unfazed.

An unspecified number of residents were taken to the hospital in ambulances, although the reason was not clear, according to Fox news.
