As protesters peacefully demonstrated at the airport for a fourth day, Hong Kong's Airport Authority said the affected flights were the ones that were not checked in by the afternoon of Monday (local time).

"All other flights have been canceled for the rest of today", the airport statement said.

Conflicts between Hong Kong protesters and police erupted on Sunday, resulting in a woman's right eye being struck by a pellet and causing concern of going blind, according to the news outlet.

Hong Kong International Airport said in a statement that the demonstration "seriously disrupted" airport operations.

"Members of the public are advised not to come to the airport".

"Hong Kong's radical demonstrators have repeatedly used extremely risky tools to attack police officers, which already constitutes a serious violent crime, and also shows the first signs of terrorism emerging", Yang Guang, a spokesman for the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO), said at a press briefing.

Tear gas was also used against protesters in several places in Kowloon.

Scores of protesters were arrested, sometimes after being beaten with batons and bloodied by police.

Increasingly restive protests have plunged Hong Kong into its most serious political crisis in decades, posing a challenge to the central government in Beijing.

Protesters, however, said they would continue with such provocative actions, because it was proving effective in rattling the government and wining the support of Hong Kong residents. If Hong Kong loses this foundation, the assets owned by the Hong Kong people could disappear overnight.

According to hospital authorities, 13 people were injured and taken to hospital on August 11, with two people in serious condition, local media reported.

Kong said airport authorities had allowed demonstrators to gather in the arrivals halls - although the protest was not granted a permit from police - but accused the activists of blocking departures.

Protesters hurled bricks at officers and ignored warnings to leave before tear gas was deployed in the Sham Shui Po area, police said, calling a march there an "unauthorized assembly".

The police have arrested some 600 people since the protests began in early June.

Demonstrators say they are fighting the erosion of the "one country, two systems" arrangement enshrining some autonomy for Hong Kong when China took it back from Britain in 1997.

China, meanwhile, has also targeted the city's corporate giants, demanding flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways suspend staff involved in the demonstrations - a move which also brought pressure on the airline from mainland businesses.

The United States flag has become a frequent sight at protests, as some called for Washington to, among other actions, pass the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, a law that would reaffirm USA commitment to upholding Hong Kong's limited democracy and rule of law.

Chinese officials have also appealed to Hong Kongers directly to condemn the violent protests, in an apparent attempt to split the movement.

On Saturday, she addressed students at Hong Kong army cadets camp and warned that the city was "suffering from external worries and internal perils, and the risk of an economic downturn is very high".
