Thousands of people remain at the airport which is one of the world's largest global terminals, BBC reports.

It is the eleventh week of the pro-democracy movement.

Hong Kong's Airport Authority added that there were "calls online" for a public assembly in the airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Protesters are demanding full withdrawal of the bill, amnesty for all demonstrators arrested in relation to the unrest, a retraction of the government's characterization of the protests as "riots", an independent inquiry into allegations of police use of force, and universal suffrage, which is promised in the territory's charter.

It's been 10 weeks since mass demonstrations erupted in Hong Kong, when millions took to the streets to demand the withdrawal of an extradition bill that would have sent people from Hong Kong to mainland China to face criminal charges.

But if you check out the websites of major airlines, many flights still remain "cancelled".

The ongoing protests in Hong Kong and uncertainty surrounding the VIP sector following Australian news reports over junket links have analysts predicting gross gaming revenue to fall by up to 6% year-on-year.

"Radical Hong Kong protesters have repeatedly used extremely unsafe tools to attack police officers", said Yang Guang, a spokesman for the Chinese government's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, in remarks translated by Chinese state media.

Officers in riot gear pursued protesters into subway stations, where they were recorded firing tear gas in enclosed environments and at close range.

"They fight for Hong Kong and that's their view", he said. "Hong Kong has reached an inflection point where all those who are concerned about Hong Kong's future must say "no" to law breakers and "no" to those engaged in violence".

Around 50 protesters remained camped in the terminals on Tuesday morning, while more than 100 passengers were spotted queuing at Cathay's ticket counter, Reuters news agency reported.

A Cathay Pacific flight left Perth as scheduled just before midnight Monday and is due to land in Hong Kong at about 7.30am Tuesday.

The airport was operating normally as of now, staff at the airport's customer service hotline said by phone.

"Hong Kong's radical demonstrators have repeatedly used extremely risky tools to attack police officers, which already constitutes a serious violent crime, and also shows the first signs of terrorism emerging", said Yang Guang, spokesman for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

A massive traffic jam soon formed on the highway leading back to Hong Kong's city center.

He said the protesters' "violent crimes" must be dealt with "resolutely" and "without mercy".

Protesters have said they plan to return to the airport later in the day to resume their demonstrations.

The protests began in opposition to a bill that would have allowed extraditions to the mainland, but quickly evolved into a broader bid to reverse a slide of rights and freedoms in the southern Chinese city.

"The police have told a lot of lies to Hong Kong people".

"I feel that I have to do something".
