Iraq's foreign minister on Monday rejected global assistance - particularly from Israel - in securing the Persian Gulf, saying Arab states were capable of ensuring the safe passage of vessels without foreign help.
Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami said on Thursday said that "Operation Sentinel" would "increase insecurity" in the region, and that Israel's involvement would have "disastrous consequences".
IRAN's commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's navy, Alireza Tangsiri, warned journalists on Sunday that "any illegitimate presence in the waters of the Persian Gulf could spark a war".
Last week, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said they would help the US -led effort to "protect the security of the Persian Gulf". "The existence of Western forces in the region will raise tensions", he added. Britain said last week it would join the mission, while no other USA allies have committed themselves so far.
The United States wants an global coalition to monitor and potentially escort commercial ships there.
