Serena Williams breaks down in tears after withdrawing from Rogers Cup final

After a historic win like this one, it makes sense that Andreescu would want to be ready for the next big tournament.

Perhaps the only person happier than Bianca Andreescu at the Rogers Cup this week has been tournament director Karl Hale. She lasted four games before her back injury became too much for Williams to handle on the court. Not on the court - save for that shockingly short final - but in her reactions.

Williams' misfortune meant Andreescu became the first home victor of the WTA Premier tournament since Faye Urban in 1969, and though the triumph came under mitigating circumstances, it has also extended an extraordinary run for the Canadian.

Andreescu brought her drop shot back against Kenin after rarely employing it against Pliskova. On your back, right? I know how it is to pull out of tournaments. "I'm learning as I go".

Up next in her bid for a first title since returning to competition in 2018 after the birth of her daughter will be Canadian 19-year-old Andreescu, who beat American Sofia Kenin 6-4 7-6 (5) in the other semi-final.

After Williams' retirement, the former world No. 1 player began to cry on her bench. But obviously, I didn't have 24 hours or plus to take off (in Toronto).

While young tennis stars are prone to burn fast and brightly, then fading into the night's sky, with two titles under her belt in her nascent career, Andreescu isn't ruling out an even greater conquest in 2019 - a Grand Slam. The U.S. Open, which is the final Grand Slam of the season, starts August 26 in NY.

Anthony Scaramucci tells CNN: GOP should consider replacing Trump
So I didn't pass the 100% litmus test. "President Trump won your home state of Texas by nine points. This is all so self-serving on his part and the media plays right into it.

"My whole back just completely spasmed, and to a point where I couldn't sleep and I couldn't really move", Williams said. "I think I would have really regretted not at least going out there and seeing maybe if a miracle happened".

This is the first time since 1969 that a Canadian has made it to the Rogers Cup final.

Those words were special for Andreescu, who grew up in Mississauga, Ont., idolizing the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

"Sometimes, you can't push your body and she couldn't today and I wish her a fast recovery".

"I'm just really proud with how I dealt with everything". "I'm very comfortable here, in Montreal, where I feel nearly at home".

As of Monday afternoon, Andreescu had been "laying low" with her parents and close friends.

Right now, she'll have to settle for Canada, where lots of images of her sit on the front pages of newspapers across the country today.
