Rescue operations continued in four Indian states where monsoon floods have killed almost 200 people and forced more than 1 million from their homes.

Addressing the flood-affected at a relief camp in Meppadi in Wayanad, Vijayan said, "the government is with you. we need to overcome all difficulties and hardships together".

According to the weather bulletin by IMD, there is no red alert in any district, but more rains are predicted in the coming three days. At Puthumala and Kavalappara, where landslides wrecked havoc last week, many people are still feared to be trapped beneath the debris. People claim that they have not seen such destruction in the last 40 years, reported BBC.

Rains subsided in many parts of the flood-hit states where over 12 lakh people have been affected and the water level has started receding in the deluge-ravaged areas, officials said.

Indian media have also reported 66 deaths in the western states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, with hundreds of thousands rescued from inundated regions. However, the government said the situation is improving.

Accompanied by revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan and chief secretary Tom Jose, the chief minister would also be visiting relief centres in Malappuram and hold discussions with people's representatives and officials.

In 185 camps in Malappuram, 45,377 people have been sheltered, the update stated. So far 221 people have lost their lives due to floods in nine states of the country.

In states hit by floods, several roads were cleared on Monday, allowing partial movement of traffic, with priority being given to trucks carrying essential goods.

Four trains were fully cancelled on Monday- Okha Ernakulam express, BarauniErnakulam Raptisagar, the Thiruvananthapuram-Ahilyanagari express and the Kochuveli Hyderabad special trains, a Southern Railways press release said this morning.
