Second, the websites were operational for only about two months, while the report gives the impression that iPhones were being hacked for two years.

The accusations Google recently made about iOS security flaws were greatly overstated, deliberately "stoking fear" in iPhone users, according to Apple. Apple also takes issue with Google's comment about the duration of the attack; the latter says that iPhone users were exposed to it for two years while Apple says that the vulnerabilities were up for "roughly two months".

In a statement posted on Friday, Apple took issue with Google's characterisation that this was a broad attack on all iPhone users. "This was never the case", Apple said in the press release.

As a reminder, Google's Project Zero analysts revealed that malicious websites were able to attack iPhones, something that was going on for as long as two years.

Cupertino's statement comes more than a week after Google's Project Zero researchers published a blog post detailing how malware embedded in specific websites could steal large amounts of personal data off users' iPhones.

With neither Apple nor Google backing down, the situation has turned into a he said, she said situation.

Meanwhile, if you're using the beta versions, make sure you update your devices to the GM versions or the latest beta releases. With Android 10 , however, users would further get an option to limit the location access to a few individual apps.

Apple said that it fixed the vulnerabilities in question in February working extremely quickly to resolve the issue just 10 days after it learnt about it. Apple said it was already in the process of patching the problem when Google notified it about the vulnerabilities. But there's evidence the hackers were affiliated with the Chinese government, and targeting the Uighur Muslim community, using not only iOS exploits, but also Android and possibly Windows-based attacks.

Working with Google's Threat Analysis Group, the researchers discovered a total of 14 iPhone vulnerabilities related to five exploits. In the opinion of the company, research Google "strikes fear to all iPhone users who think their smartphones are unsafe", writes the Chronicle.info with reference for Today.

Apple has always prided itself over iOS security and Google's blog post was a serious blow.

Apple concludes by stating, "Our product security teams around the world are constantly iterating to introduce new protections and patch vulnerabilities as soon as they're found".

"Project Zero posts technical research that is created to advance the understanding of security vulnerabilities, which leads to better defensive strategies", the company said in a statement.

"The attack affected less than a dozen web sites and was narrowly focused". Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the 2020 iPhone lineup will include three major changes including a new form-factor, reported 9to5Mac.
