The House Judiciary Committee next week will begin laying the groundwork necessary for an investigation into President Donald Trump that could result in his impeachment.

The House Judiciary Committee and House Oversight Committee sent letters Thursday to the White House, the Vice President's office, the Secret Service and the Trump Organization requesting information about the taxpayer money apparently flowing into Trump properties during official trips.

The House Judiciary Committee said in a court filing in July that it's actively considering articles of impeachment and is seeking access to redacted materials from the Mueller report in order to decide whether to move forward with the process.

President Donald Trump has once again made off to his golf course in Virginia this weekend, and that means he hit a notable milestone: he's reportedly spent 30% of his presidency at resorts he owns.

House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said that his panel "does not believe that USA taxpayer funds should be used to personally enrich President Trump, his family, and his companies".

Holding a vote will put Democrats on the record on whether they support opening an impeachment inquiry against President Trump.

The new procedures could be in place for a September 17 hearing at which Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is scheduled to testify, along with former Trump White House aides Rob Porter and Rick Dearborn.

Top Treasury Official: US Will Sanction Buyers of Iranian Oil
This weekend, United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke about the Iranian regime in two separate interviews. But the White House has held firm on not conducting talks with preset conditions.

"You know that we focused quite a bit on the Mueller report, even having Robert Mueller before us", said Rep. Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania, a Judiciary Committee member.

Miami Democratic Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is a member of the Judiciary Committee and is in favor of launching an impeachment inquiry into Trump's potential obstruction of the Mueller Investigation.

The House Judiciary Committee has taken several steps in recent weeks that could lead to high-profile hearings, but it's still not clear if those hearings will materialize before the end of the year - when House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, a Democrat from NY, says he hopes to decide whether to bring forward articles of impeachment. "I think a lot of people would rather just vote him out, vote the president out".

The White House declined to comment on the chairmen's letters.

House Democrats' subpoenas have been routinely dismissed by the White House, complicating their efforts to get information but potentially giving fodder to their argument that the President is flouting the law.

"The impact that the president's business interests may have on his official conduct and American foreign policy interests demands scrutiny by Congress - as does the use of taxpayer dollars on properties or businesses personally benefiting the president", Nadler wrote.
