Labour leader Mr Corbyn has produced apparent his priority is for an election when no deal is off the table, but Mr Watson will argue that the only way to conclusion the deadlock is with a next vote.

The Labour leader is expected to accuse the Prime Minister of using Brexit to "shift even more power and wealth to those at the top" as he speaks to the Trades Union Congress.

The 59-year-old, who announced on Sunday he would be standing down from the Commons after 18 years representing Bassetlaw, said: "That's not a good recipe for winning a General Election and in the North of England, Labour will pay a huge price".

'No one can trust the word of a prime minister who is threatening to break the law to force through no-deal, ' Corbyn stressed, after recalling that an exit from the European Union on bad terms would result in job losses, trigger food price increases and cause a shortage of medicines in the UK.

"And in that election we will commit to a public vote with a credible option to leave (the EU) and the option to remain".

"No one can trust the word of a Prime Minister who is threatening to break the law to force through no deal".

"My experience on the doorstep tells me most of those who've deserted us over our Brexit policy did so with deep regret and would greatly prefer to come back; they just want us to take an unequivocal position that whatever happens we'll fight to remain, and to sound like we mean it", he will say.

"We can't ask people to vote to renegotiate then might ask the public to vote that down", he tweeted.

"We were very, very clear that if people wanted a democratic moment, if they wanted an election, we offered it to the Labour opposition and mysteriously they decided not to go for it". "We're ready to unleash the biggest people-powered campaign we've ever seen".

He will say: "Prime Minister Johnson now thinks that by shutting down parliament he will shut us up".

Watson's intervention is likely to be viewed as less than helpful by the Labour leadership.

"It will put us at the mercy of Trump and the big U.S. corporations itching to get their teeth further into our NHS, sound the death knell for our steel industry, and permanently drive down rights and protections for workers".

"We will deserve all the ridicule we get if this is the manifesto".

Mr Kinnock (pictured below) was joined by more than a dozen MPs including fellow Labour member Caroline Flint, former Tory cabinet minister Rory Stewart, independent Nick Boles and Liberal Democrat Norman Lamb at the launch of "MPs for a Deal" in Portcullis House.

These included continued customs union membership until the question of whether to leave could be settled at a general election; and closer alignment with the EU on workers' rights and environmental standards.
