Trump Lies About Scottish Airport for No Apparent Reason

Gen. Ed Thomas, the branch's chief spokesman, said in a statement that leadership had instructed the service's Air Mobility Command to "review all guidance pertaining to selection of airports and lodging accommodations during global travels".

Over the past several months, the House Oversight Committee has been investigating US military expenditures at and around the Trump property in Scotland, raising questions about a conflict of interest.

Trump did not divest from his interests in the Trump Organization upon entering office, prompting ethical concerns from Democrats who argue he is profiting from the presidency.

Trump added: "Mike's family has lived in Doonbeg for many years, and he thought that during his very busy European visit, he would stop and see his family!"

Doonbeg has a population of less than 1,000, and it is 181 miles away from Dublin, where Pence met with government officials during the trip.

Donald Trump has insisted he knew nothing about U.S. military crew stopping over at his Turnberry resort in Scotland at taxpayers' expense amid a Congress investigation into a potential conflict of interest.

The US House Oversight Committee and the US House Judiciary Committee have sent a series of letters requesting information on what they described as "multiple efforts by the President, Vice President, and other Trump Administration officials to spend taxpayer funds at properties owned by the President in potential violation of the constitution's emoluments clauses".

The inquiry is part of a broader, previously unreported probe into USA military expenditures at and around the Trump property in Scotland.

Pressed further, by Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Mike Rumbles, he added: "It's important to make clear that Prestwick, like all other airports providng fixed base operations, arranges overnight accommodation for aircrew when asked to do so".

Marc Short, the vice president's chief of staff, previously told reporters that although Trump had not directed Pence to stay at his resort, he suggested doing so. "And that's something that the Air Force is looking at right now".

"NOTHING TO DO WITH ME", the U.S. leader asserted, while also taking the opportunity to praise the U.S. Air Force for having "good taste" in its choice of resort.

The spokesperson says a KC-135 aircraft landed at Glasgow Prestwick Airport in September of past year after about a two-month deployment at a US air base in Qatar, and then overnighted at Trump's Turnberry resort about 30 miles away.

Democrats are also concerned about United States military stopovers at Glasgow's Prestwick airport, which is near the Trump-owned golf course at Turnberry and which has benefited from purchases of fuel by the USA defense department.

"I had nothing to do with the decision of our great [VP] Mike Pence to stay overnight at one of the Trump owned resorts in Doonbeg, Ireland. It does not benefit from commission or in any other way from booking Turnberry and customers settle their own accounts directly with the hotel".

"In early Spring of this year, an Air National Guard crew made a routine trip from the U.S.to Kuwait to deliver supplies", Politico reported Saturday. An Air Force official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Tuesday that the service is considering whether it is appropriate for airmen to stay at Trump properties on official travel while Trump remains in the Oval Office, but a decision has not been made.
