The team now has 160 points from three matches.India and South Africa will next take on each other in the second Test, slated to begin from October 10.

Bowling coach Bharat Arun attributed Indian pacers' ability to reverse swing as the reason to the bowling department's ascent in Test cricket.

"It was a purely magnificent spell by Shami that put us back in the game".

"He knows how to bowl on such pitches, gets reverse swing straight into play once he knows there is some help on offer", Rohit Sharma said offering a batsman's perspective.

Ravichandran Ashwin took seven wickets in the first innings, but his removal of Theunis de Bruyn - the first dismissal on the final day - was his only one in the second, as fellow spinner Jadeja (4-87) and pace bowler Shami shared the rest. However, the tourists could not repeat the same show as they skittled out for a paltry 191 in the second innings.

"The particular wicket that we played the last game tended to keep a bit low and we realised it has to be more stump line and not outside the off-stump".

"South Africa batted exceptionally well in the first innings. It's all about wanting to make a play for the team even in conditions that are hard", Kohli said at the post-match conference. "On that wicket it needs lot of patience", Arun said. Sometimes the outfield is also not great. "And then he came up with a magnificent spell", Arun added. Talking about the recent success of Indian fast bowlers in recent times he said, "There is definitely a chance for the pacers on any track provided they have the necessary skills, and our fast bowlers have done extremely well over the last couple of years, overseas and at home".

Arun, India's bowling coach, stressed that the pacers have the skillset to succeed in varied conditions.

Subsequently, Ravindra Jadeja scored a significant 40-run knock while skipper Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten at their respective scores of 31 and 27 before India declared their second innings at 323/4 to set a 395-run target for South Africa. "Only those fast bowlers who have got good control over reverse swing can bowl well in the fourth innings".

"Now, you see what he has done, he has got wickets from a docile pitch (in Visakhapatnam)".

"When we go overseas, we hardly look at the wicket".
