The Saddleridge Fire, which swept into northern Los Angeles overnight, has prompted 100,000 people to evacuate the area.

The Saddleridge Fire, which started Thursday and exploded to 4,600 acres by early Friday, has destroyed an undetermined number of homes and led to mandatory evacuations in and near Los Angeles' Porter Ranch neighborhood, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The 210 Freeway has been shut down in both directions between the 5 and 118 freeways, according to the Los Angeles Times. When it was first reported a few minutes before 11 p.m., it had gutted 60 acres before growing to 1,600 acres about an hour later.

Dynamic fires are rapidly moving toward residential areas in southern California on Friday. Firefighters battle a wind-driven wildfire in Sylmar, Calif., Oct. 11, 2019.

An evacuation center was opened at the Sylmar Recreation Center and was set to open at the Granada Hills Recreation Center around 2:30 a.m.

At least nine fires are burning in the Golden State Friday morning, including five in Southern California, fueled by gusty winds blowing through the region. Officials have evacuated 23,000 homes.

The National Weather Service said a wind advisory and a red flag warning are in effect.

Much of Northern California, from San Francisco to the OR border, remains under a state "red flag" fire alert.

The Wendy Fire in nearby Newbury Park was burning at 90 acres and 25 percent containment around 1 a.m. Friday.

Predominant fire: The Saddleridge fire began about 9 p.m. on the north aspect of the 210 Cramped-access highway shut to Yarnell Avenue, however with winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour it soon spread.

"It started just eating up vegetation as fast as the eye can see". Mandatory evacuations were ordered for all of Porter Ranch and Oakridge Estates.

Fire crews are also fighting three smaller fires in Southern California - including one in Calimesa that's burned 500 acres and one in the Moreno Valley that's blackened 350.

Meanwhile, about 300,000 residents remain without electricity in Northern California after Pacific Gas & Electric intentionally cut power to prevent wildfires caused by high winds downing live power equipment.
