San Diego Padres pitcher Jacob Nix was charged with criminal trespassing after he broke into a home in Peoria, Arizona.

10News' Scripps sister station ABC15, citing information from the Peoria Police Department, reported pitcher Jacob Nix broke into a home in the early morning hours of October 6. The husband had also managed to kick Nix in the face. Police identified the man as 23-year-old Nix in their report, and noted that his employer is the San Diego Padres. Police found and arrested Nix and Cosgrove a few blocks away from the house.

Cosgrove, a 12th-round pick in 2017, has yet to pitch above Single-A.

When questioned by cops, Nix said he thought he was entering his own home - although, he admitted his house doesn't have a doggie door.

"This is my fault, I can't blame alcohol but I was inebriated", Nix said. He said he couldn't remember how he got into the backyard and that he usually enters through the front door.

Online court records show Nix does not yet have an attorney. The Padres pitcher faces two counts of criminal trespassing, according to the Miricopa County Court's official website.

He's now in the Arizona Fall League, an off season league, where he's working to get back in shape for baseball season pitching for the Peoria Javelinas, according to Yahoo. Nix and another Padres player, Thomas Cosgrove, were arrested.

Nix made nine starts for the Padres in 2018, pitching to a 7.02 ERA in 42 1/3 innings.

The Padres released a statement on Thursday, saying, "We take this matter seriously and have been in contact with the Commissioner's Office and local authorities". The team will not comment on the situation further due to "ongoing legal proceedings".
